Dump Cake

This is so easy to make you won't believe it. The name of this recipe gives it away, simply dump all the ingredients into the baking dish and you have dessert. It reminds me of apple crisp but it combines canned cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple and the cake mix is like a crumble topping.  Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipping cream. I like it all by itself. I found this recipe in a old recipe book from the early seventies and then did a little research online and there are many variations of a dump cake. This would be a great recipe to make with your kids as it is so easy.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 can (19 Oz. or 540mls) Cherry Pie Filling
  • 1 can (14 Oz.) Crushed Pineapple
  • 1 box Yellow Or White Cake Mix
  • 1 Cup Butter

Preparation Instructions

Dump cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple into a greased 9x13  baking dish. Stir together.
Sprinkle cake mix over the top of the fruit. Slice  butter and distribute over the surface of the cake mix. Use either 3/4 Cup or 1 Cup of butter.
Bake this sacrilege at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipping cream or simply nothing at all.

The cast of characters.

In a greased 9x13 inch pan dump in the cherry pie filling.

Next, dump in the crushed pineapple.

Stir to combine.

Dump in the cake mix and distribute evenly over the fruit.

Cube the butter and scatter over the cake mix layer. During this step try not to think about how much butter you are using. I have used 3/4 Cup instead of 1 cup of butter and it still is great. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
