Apple Crisp

I have a apple tree in my backyard and every year at this time we get to enjoy a variety of apple desserts. This apple crisp recipe has become one of our favorites!  It is quick and easy to prepare. Serve fresh out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream it is so delicious. Pure and simple comfort food!!

Apple Crisp Filling:
4 Cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 Tablespoon real lemon juice
½ Cup sugar
½ Teaspoon cinnamon
2 Tablespoons flour

Combine apples, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and flour.  Pour into a greased baking dish (I use a 7 1/2 inch by 11 inch baking dish).

Crispy Topping:

½ Cup flour
¾ cup large flake oats
⅓ Cup brown sugar
½ Teaspoon salt
½ Teaspoon cinnamon
⅓ Cup butter
¼ Cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and rub butter into dry mixture using your hands, until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle topping over apples. Preheat oven to 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

This recipe doubles well, use a 9x13 baking dish when doubling.
This recipe can be doubled nicely.
