I have been making this recipe for over 25 years and it has been a family favorite. Sloppy Joes are the perfect solution for a quick week night meal. Serve with coleslaw. |
Ingredients:
1 pound (454 grams) lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup celery, diced
1/4 cup chopped green or red bell pepper
2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon brown sugar
salt to taste
Pinch of dried chili pepper
ground black pepper to taste
6 toasted hamburger buns
Directions:
In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, garlic, celery and green pepper; drain off liquids.
Stir in the mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and chili peppers.
Serve on toasted buns.
Serve with your favorite coleslaw.
