Halloween Popcorn Balls

This recipe comes from the Pioneer Woman, "A Year of Holidays". I like these popcorn balls because they are soft and not tooth chippers. You can pop your own popcorn or buy it. The popcorn is popped with sugar so it is actually Kettle corn. I have a Whirly Bird popcorn stovetop popper but you can just use a pot. Candy corn and peanuts are added for a nice sweet and salty touch. If you don't want to add candy corn you can add Reeses Pieces or confetti sprinkles.

Halloween Popcorn Balls
Makes 12-18 depending on the size you make them

1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup candy corn
1/2 cup salted roasted peanuts

Directions

In a large pot or stovetop popcorn popper; add the popcorn kernels and oil, heat over medium heat. When the oil starts to sizzle, sprinkle the sugar over the kernels. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and shake the pot until the popping slows down, about 4- 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool. Spray a large bowl with cooking spray or butter add the popcorn.
Combine the marshmallows and butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring, until melted and smooth. Add orange food colouring (optional).
Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn mixture and gently toss to coat.
